WBTF Organizing Committee Held a Meeting in Bangkok with the Teachers’ Council and the Office of the Basic Education Commission of Thailand

On April 5, 2019, in Bangkok, representatives of the organizing committee of the World Forum of the Best Teachers (WBTF) held a working meeting with Ms. Vatanaporn Ra Ngubtook, Secretary-General of the Teachers’ Council of Thailand, and Ms. Benjalug Namfa, Senior Academic Development Specialist and Advisor to the Secretary-General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission under the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Thailand.

The tripartite meeting was facilitated by Dr. Manit Boonprasert, Director of the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions of Thailand.

The Teachers’ Council of Thailand, under the Ministry of Education, is the central body responsible for teacher licensing and certification. It collaborates with teacher associations across the country at all levels—from preschool to K–12 education, including both public and private schools.

The Office of the Basic Education Commission is a national government agency within the Ministry of Education that focuses on the development of primary and secondary school education. Its mission is to support and advance basic education throughout the Kingdom of Thailand.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the need for reforms in the school system and a reconsideration of the teacher’s role in shaping future generations. It was noted that the key objectives of WBTF align closely with the priorities of Thailand’s national education policy.

Ms. Vatanaporn expressed her willingness to inform teacher association leaders in Thailand about the opportunity to participate in WBTF remotely, highlighting the forum’s relevance for professional growth. In turn, Ms. Benjalug Namfa, on behalf of the Office of the Basic Education Commission, announced the agency’s intention to take part in selecting ten outstanding teachers to represent Thailand at WBTF events.
