We made an interview with Professor Vincenzo Cerullo, Principal Investigator of the Faculty of Medicine and Biology at the University of Helsinki.
Professor Cerullo believes that strict quarantine is the most effective way to fight the virus. China's experience proves that. Vincenzo Cerullo hopes that the vaccine will be available in 8-12 months.
"As for the vaccine, there are already some fairly good specimens, but there is a difference between a good vaccine and a vaccine that works well on humans. As the vaccine is applied to a healthy person, we should wait to see if the vaccine works," the professor said.
The impact of the virus on immunity has not yet been sufficiently studied, the professor added. He also suggested that the information on the virus available today may change the course of further research.
"We do not know how long the immunity protects us. Antibodies are formed, but it will take 2 years to answer the question of how long it protects us," said the professor. "We know very little about the virus, there are many unexplained facts. Besides, what we know can change".
